Problem of the Day - Friday, November 11, 2011

A cross section of a shape is in the form of a triangle. What could the shape be?

Wondering about the definition of a "cross-section"?

Cross Section
a. A section formed by a plane cutting through an object, usually at right angles to an axis.
b. A piece so cut or a graphic representation of such a piece.

  1. The shape that is being cut, could be any quadrilateral, because when you cut a four sided figure into 2, each piece has 3 sides.

  2. It could be a quadtrilateral, but it also might be a pentagon/hexagon, if you cut it at each outer vertex and into the origin in the middle.
